The goal of the Living History series is to more fully explain daily life during key historical periods by incorporating primary source accounts such as diaries, letters, and other writings into traditional non-fiction text.  These primary source accounts tell the story of men, women and children of various socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds living during the time period. Excerpts of these firsthand accounts are woven into the narrative, while longer passages from diaries and letters appear in sidebars found in each chapter.  Some sidebars also feature analysis and commentary from historians.  Selected vocabulary words are defined throughout the text.  Each title also features numerous historical photos and illustrations.  The text is clearly written and easy to understand.  Recommended for secondary researchers or those with an interest in history.
