Elem. – The Duck Who Didn’t Like Water

Small, Steve. The Duck Who Didn’t Like Water. Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers. 2021. 978-1-534-48917-2. $17.99. Grades K-2.

“There once was a duck who didn’t like water.” Wait…a duck who didn’t like water?! Duck did not like swimming in it, paddling in it, or even when it rained! Donned in his raincoat, rain hat, rubber boots, and umbrella, duck avoids water at all costs! Imagine his horror when a hole is blown into his roof during a massive storm. This massive storm blew not only a hole into his roof, but a lost visitor: frog. Frog does not know where he lives, so duck allows him to stay the night. Together the next day and weeks, they search for frog’s house, all the while becoming friends. Things are great until they find frog’s home and frog goes on his way. Duck now feels as though something is missing when he is home alone… and duck will travel through all the water in the world to fix what is missing!

THOUGHTS: A cute story on friendship, enjoying different things, and making the best out of something you may not fully enjoy!
